Shaun Samuels, MD

Shaun Samuels, MD, has been an interventional radiologist at Baptist Cardiac & Vascular Institute since 2002. Previously, he was a clinical assistant professor of radiology at Stanford University Hospital as well as Chief of Cardiovascular Interventional Radiology at the Palo Alto VA Medical Center.

Dr. Samuels received his undergraduate degree from the University of California at Berkeley, and his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School. He completed a residency in diagnostic radiology at Los Angeles County USC Medical Center, where he was also chief resident. After a residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, Torrance, California, Dr. Samuels completed a fellowship in radiology at the University of California, San Francisco, followed by a fellowship in interventional radiology at Baptist Cardiac & Vascular Institute.

Dr. Samuels is a member of the Radiological Society of North America, the American Medical Association, and the Society of Interventional Radiology.

Involved in the research and design of numerous endovascular devices, Dr. Samuels is also the holder of several patents. They include an expandable lumen vascular sheath, an over-the-wire scalpel, and a method and apparatus for removing blood clots and other objects from tubular structures within the body.

Dr. Samuels has published articles and abstracts in medical journals, including the Journal of Vascular Surgery, the Journal of Vascular & Interventional Radiology, and the American Journal of Gastroenterology. He also authored a chapter in "Heart Disease: A Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine." In addition, he has taught numerous educational workshops to physicians desiring to advance their skills in endovascular medicine.
